Jonny Greenwood’s 2012 Radiohead Pedalboard

Jonny Greenwood has perhaps one of the most interesting pedalboards on this site, and is naturally also one of our most popular profiles.

The 2012 Radiohead tour brought forth a few changes to Jonny Greenwood’s pedalboard, and we figured we should share it with you all, in addition to adding this update to our Jonny Greenwood pedalboard profile page.

Jonny Greenwood’s 2012 Pedalboard

While there were a few pedals exchanged, most notably the appearance of the Electro Harmonix Freeze as a compression pedal, the basic philosophy of his pedalboard configuration hasn’t changed.  Basically, he uses two different amps, one of which is used for his “gritty” distortion, while the other is cleaner and used for the more atmospheric effects.

Each of these amps have their own set of exclusive pedals, with a third board (first in signal order) with pedals that are employed on both.   These amp/board configurations are selection with a Boss LS2 Line Selector.  That common board also contains two more Line Selectors at the beginning of the signal, which chooses among the Korg Kaoss Pad and Jonny Greenwood’s Laptop, for sampling purposes.

As previously noted, for those who are familiar with his older boards, the big change is with the EHX Freeze.  It also contains many of the more notable Radiohead effects, like the Small Stone Phase Shifter (for songs such as Planet Telex) and the Envelope Filter (which is used on song such as Paranoid Android).

This next board is the “distortion” board, in which the volume pedal is used here to pan through the amount of distortion.

Board B

This is the more experimental board, which contains the more “space-like” effects, though many of the innovative sounds are also delivered from the Kaoss Pad and laptop.  This board contains the Space Echo, Reverb and Akai Headrush.
