Tom Morello is one of today’s must unique guitarist, which can be attested by his inclusion on many top guitarist lists like his 26th place showing on Rolling Stones top 100 guitarists lists. While his technique is outstanding, he also relies on a lot of effects, making the Tom Morello pedalboard an extremely interesting subject.

Tom Morello Pedalboard

While Tom does employ a lot of effects, he doesn’t seem to change too often compared to his contemporaries.  His pedalboard remained the same throughout Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, save for a few exceptions, which tended to just replace a pedal of the same effect.

While the Tom Morello pedalboard doesn’t change too often, they still occupy an important place in his sound.  These pedals which he has brought along with him all these years are essential to his sound.  They are also essential pedals in the general sense, being among the most popular pedals found in any of our pedalboard lists.  In other words, you can’t go wrong with any of these, as they are used by many, are always in demand and generally all quality built, long lasting products.

Tom Morello Pedalboard and Guitar Techniques

One of the most interesting sounds coming out of Tom Morello’s guitar work are the moments when he forgoes his pick and uses instead some form of feedback. On the song “Testify”, for example, he removes his lead cable for the solo and touches his pickups all the while apply a Dunlop Crybaby Wah. Everything must be properly grounded to ensure their is no resulting shock, especially considering the power used on those stages.  It may not be easy, but practice makes perfect.
